Name

The name of the group shall be Brown Edge Parish News

Aims

The aims of Brown Edge Parish News will be:

  1. To keep “Brownedgers” informed of what has happened, and is going to happen in their community.
  2. To foster a sense of community and pride in the village
  3. To encourage community interaction and support for commercial activities.

It will do this by:- Maintaining a positive and welcoming tone in its communication and seek to be inclusive, embracing the differences and varied characters of our community.  It will not include articles that seek to undermine this stance.

Operation

The group is run entirely on a voluntary basis.

The group consists of  Editorial staff and a wider group of distributors and contributors.

The Editorial staff consists of  (Could be termed as members)

Decision Making

The editorial staff make decisions collectively. If a vote is required then each person has one vote. In the case of an equal number of votes the editor has the casting vote.

Ceasing to be a member

Members may resign at any time in writing to the editor.

Acquiring new members of the editorial Team.

The existing team can appoint new members as long as there is an active role for them.

Finances

An account will be maintained on behalf of the Parish News  at a bank agreed by the team. Two signatories will be nominated by the Committee (one to be the Treasurer).  The signatories must not be related nor members of the same household.

All payments (which are usually only for printing and donations will be agreed by the team)

A statement of income  and expenditure will be distributed to the team each month.

Any surplus of income over expenditure will first be retained and then distributed to local causes that directly benefit the community of Brown Edge.  Preference should be given to items that can’t find funding elsewhere and/or facilitates a larger project that in particular that benefit the School or churches of Brown Edge where work being undertaken is done by local tradesmen.

Amendments to this agreement

Can only be made when prior notice has been given to all members and at a meeting held to discuss the same

Meetings

Monthly meetings will be held to discuss

  • Financial statement
  • Sales.
  • Feedback from last months issue
  • What to include in next months issue
  • Plus any other topic deemed a requirement of the Editor

Any other item can be placed on the agenda by request to the editor.

Meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month but can be adjusted to suit the majority of the team.

Minutes will not be kept of meetings  just a record of actions agreed to be undertaken

Action points will be circulated immediately after the meeting for reference

Dissolution

If a meeting, by simple majority, decides that it is necessary to close down the group it may call a Special  Meeting to do so. The sole business of this meeting will be to dissolve the group.

If it is agreed to dissolve the group, all remaining money and other assets, once outstanding debts have been paid, will be donated to a local charitable organisation. The organisation will be agreed at the meeting which agrees the dissolution.Victoria
